Southern Railways 4-6-0 steam locomotive no 777 'Sir Lamiel', 1925.Photograph by Chris Hogg. This King Arthur class locomotive, photographed here in the 1980s, was designed by Maunsell for Southern Railways (SR) and it was built by North British Locomotive Co in 1925. It differed from previous King Arthur class locomotives by having a narrower cab fitted, which was more suitable for the eastern section of the SR. 'Sir Lamiel' initially served express routes to Bournemouth, Salisbury and beyond, and was eventually withdrawn from service in 1961.
