Poster produced for the London & North Eastern Railway LNER to promote rail services to Scotland. The poster shows a view of The Forth Bridge, which crosses the estuary of the River Forth in Scotland to connect the East Coast route between London and Aberdeen. It was designed by Sir John Fowler and Sir Benjemin Baker, and was opened by the Prince of Wales in 1890. Artwork by Henry George Gawthorn (1879-1941), who started out as an architect but later turned to pictorial art. He wrote several books on poster design and publicity and produced posters for LNER. He often included a self-portrait in his posters, complete with pince-nez and a panama hat.
