Amica Mascagni Opera Theater Poster
An uncredited designer keeps things on the simpler side for this promotion for an obscure Mascagni opera that made its debut on March 16, 1905, in Monte Carlo. A cameo appearance by a pure-hearted country maiden and a bold Art Nouveau textual pressence was all that was necesaary. Pietro Mascagni (1863-1945) is one of the most important Italian opera composers of the turn of the 20th century. The formidable success of his first masterpiece, Cavalleria Rusticana, unfortunately eluded many of his following works. Mascagni, however, wrote fifteen operas, an operetta, several beautiful orchestral and vocal works, as well as songs and piano music. He enjoyed amazing operatic successes during his lifetime, and at the same time pursued a very successful career as a conductor.
