Woman hangs off of man in tuxedo. The society lady and the scoundrel - the stuff that many a melodrama was made of. Za-la-mort was a character crated by Italian actor-director Emilio Ghione as a counterpart to Arsene Lupin, the fictional con man enjoying an immense popularity in France. Ghione made several Za-la-mort films in Italy starting in 1920; then, temporarily short of funds, he accepted an offer to make one in Germany in 1924. Fenneker was a very important expressionist with a superb sense of the dramatic and he did a number of film posters for two major Berlin movie palaces. Unquestionably, film poster art reached its zenith in the works of this artist. Rare!
