French race car racing in front of yellow clock.An impressive evocation of race against time was prepared for an event at the famous Montlhery track (misspelled Monthlery) that never took place. Just ten days before the scheduled date, Germany invaded Poland without warning, and World War II was under way. The race was cancelled, but the powerful image was too good to be wasted, and it was resuscitated for the 1949 running of this race.
