Overhead view of driver in his blue race car.This design for the 1968 event at Rouen is particularly interesting in that it shows a driver (presumably Jackie Stewart) in a Matra - a newly introduced French Formula 1 car, developed jointly by Matra-Sports and national oil company Elf with a grant from the government. The Matra did well in its first year, thanks mostly to Mr. Stewart's driving prowess, winning the Dutch, US and German Grand Prix races; however, in this race at Rouen the eventual winner was a Ferrari driven by Jacky Ickx.
