Primrose & West's Big Minstrels
W.H West and his touring minstrel show.Beginning in 1871, impresarios George H. Primrose and W.H. West toured their minstrel shows, unusual in that they featured a large number of blacks in addition to whites in blackface. From Boston to Minneapolis and beyond, sold-out crowds packed Grand Opera houses to see the vaudevillian mix of song, dance, comedy, acrobatics, novelty acts, tableaux and parades. A program for the 1895-1896 ""Big Minstrels"" tour lists eight different acts: ""a representation of 'old-time minstrelsy' by genuine colored artists""; a musical medley.
