Im Haus zur Roten Laterne
This dramatic yarn involved the Red Light Cabaret and international jewel thieves in the tenderloin district of a big city. This two-sheet poster was evidently prepared in anticipation of a release the censors nixed and thus was never displayed. Rare! This dramatic yarn involved the Red Light Cabaret and international jewel thieves in the tenderloin district of a big city. The scenarist centered the story around the fate of one of the pawns in a jewel heist, a girl working in the red-light district. Thus the title, In the House of Red Light. But the production-company censors were unwilling to approve a film that seemed to call attention to a house of prostitution, and they refused to release the film until the name was changed to the more neutral Die Rothausgasse (Red House Alley). This two-sheet poster, then, is for a film (or a title) that never was. It was evidently prepared in anticipation of a release the censors nixed and thus was never displayed. Rare!
