Folies Bergere La Cavalieri Poster
Woman with tamborine dancing at the Folies Bergere. This lively dancer is none other than Lina Cavalierei, a a headliner at the Folies-Bergere during the 1897 season. A very appealing, playfully lit design, but one that is also one of the artist's scarcer creations. Pal was born in Bucharest to a Rumanian family descended from Byzantine rulers. He started his artistic career in London, under the name Julius Mendes Price, as a magazine illustrator. But soon after his move to Paris in 1893, he emerged as one of the most extraordinary posterists of that golden age of poster art. In 1900, Pal abandoned Paris as abruptly as he had London and moved to the United States, where he worked for the film and animation industries. He died in Miami in 1942.
