La Chablisienne
A woman with a wine bottle on a golden-orange globe.Though it would appear to promote a wine originating from the French town pin-spotted on the golden-orange globe at the feet of the ecstatic courier, this poster is actually an advertisement for a Chablis-based cooperative of wine producers. Founded in 1923, La Chablisienne collects and vinifies the production of about a dozen Domaines, with an emphasis placed on the originality of each individual vineyard. As a testimony to the enduring quality of le Monnier's design, it is used as a central graphic image for the associations website (www.chablisienne.com). The artist created a large body of posters for films and commercial products during the period from 1924 to 1954, but little biographical information on him remains.
