Mucha Luchon Casino Spa Poster
1895 Beautiful Mucha rendering of the prestigious Pyrenees resort.Mucha failed to sign this railway poster for the prestigious Pyrenees resort, one of his early designs, thereby creating a mystery; it was later attributed by different authorities to Grasset, even to Tamagno. Yet the catalogue of the 1896 Reims poster exhibition credits him correctly, and many decades later a preliminary sketch was found in his estates papers, so the authorship is no longer in dispute; the architectural renderings of the spa and casino at right, however, were clearly contributed by someone else. A factor which may have compounded the enigma is the absence of a beautiful woman something Mucha almost never omitted which makes this, on all accounts, one of Muchas most offbeat works.
