Snow Skiing

Wilhelm Braun Snow Ski Gear Poster
Stopping for a moment to cool off the overheated cross-country skier gives us a chance to admire the cut and fit of his custom-made Braun clothes. Along with his arresting pose, the dropped-out whites of his sweater, hat and gloves draw our attention. Son of the Swiss portrait painter Franz Moos, Carl grew up in Munich, where he started out as a newspaper illustrator. Between 1907 and 1914 he produced many fine posters, mostly designs and strong solid colors we see here. At the outbreak of World War 1 he moved to Zurich where he later become design director for the prestigious Swiss publisher/printer Orell Fussli.
