Dubonnet Vin tonique quinquina
Cassandres immortal 1932 triptych design for this French aperitif was used on huge billboards and little menu cards as well as every size and format in between, and the public never seems to tire of it. The image owes a great deal of its long life to graphic flair and conceptual wit. But what Cassandre probably did not realize at the start was that the seated characters silhouette and gestures would lend themselves to the kind of variations that give an advertising campaign legs. Here, we see to what great lengths - or shall we say depths - the drinker will go to get his favorite tipple. Then one warming sip, and he wont mind the cold at all. Rare!
