La Grande Illusion Movie Poster
Jean Renoir's famous film The Grand Illusion. One of the most profound posters created for a film. Few films have conveyed such a powerful antiwar sentiment as Jean Renoir's 'La Grande Illusion' and none have surpassed it for a compassionate insight into human nature in crisis. Underscoring its strong condemnation of the inhumanity of war, the film was banned in Germany and Italy, which were at the time being whipped into a frenzy by their fascist governments. Lancy gives us one of the most moving, and today one of the rarest film posters ever created. In a radical departure from standard film promotional rules, Lancy portrays neither the actors or the action, but presents, instaed, an alegorical antiwar composition. The original poster has sold at auction for $2,500 - $3,000.
