Danceby Jules Cheret
Jules Cheret Theater Opera Poster
Woman in white dress waves fan as man in top hat and another brightly dressed woman dance in background.Like virtually all of the posters Cheret did for the dances at this theater between 1892 and 1897, the design features a profiled woman in a billowing dress looking out over her shoulder as a shadowy make figure and other revelers dance around her. Cheret would do a single design each winter and it would be repeated with varying text throughout the season. For 1896, the charmer's dress is striped in two shades of green and she gestures to her escort with a fan. It is interesting to see how Cheret, reworking the same visual ingredients, always keeps us interested.
