The unfettered Marianne heralds an International Parisian Air Show. This Fouqueray design for an International Parisian Air Show in the winter of 1919 conveys a rousing, decidedly nationalistic bent that seems altogether apropos in the pride-restoring days following the end of World War I. The slashing pencil work and sepia color scheme conjure a sense of eddying motion and liberation, the only color present being the tritone swatch draped from the unfettered Marianne, heralding the event as she soars amidst flanking Fokker-style aircraft above the Grand Palais.
