Onoranze a Volta
1899 The Social Theater of Como reopens its doors with a production of Verdis Otello and dazzles its audience with brilliant new lighting effects. The Social Theater of Como reopened its doors after a long restoration project with a production of Verdis Otello. The opera may have been the state presentation, but the true diva that night was the refurbished, fully-electronic Social Theater itself. Billed as a tribute to the 150th anniversary of Allesandro Voltas discovery of the battery, the attendees were dazzled by the new electric lighting elements on display not only on the stage, but throughout the entire establishment. Everything glowed with new luster, from the aristocratic splendor of the main hall to the soft illumination of the exquisitely elegant ladies and gentlemen on display in their gold-tinged boxes. Dudovichs delicious three-sheet design utilizes a radiant Mucha-esque beauty, a gold ribbon cascading from her hair and out of the frames limitations, backlit with a brilliant burst of light, to tantalize us not only with her charms, but with the electric splendor awaiting us. This is the version before lettering in the left text pane.
