Toulouse Travel Poster
Woman painting while she looks out at the city of Toulouse.Draped in sheer and swaddled in lustrous satin, this comely and lauded artiste flips through a display rack filled with ornate and monumental Toulouse street scenes which presumably sprung from her delicate palette. Soft and inviting, the classicist design wistfully promotes rail travel to this southern French destination in conjunction with the Toulouse Office of Tourism. Camps, a Spaniard who spent most of his career in France was one of a number of artists hired by the Champenois printing house to fill the void when Mucha left for America in 1904. Creating both advertising and decorative works, Camps eventually found his own groove--less graphic than Mucha and more akin to oil painting, marked by soft edges and shadings, as well as loads of sentiment.
