New York City Anchor Ocean Line
New York skyline with splendid detail and a steamship in the foreground cruising past the statue of liberty. The Anchor Line, Scotlands oldest steamship company, enlists the splendor of a fantastic New York cityscape instead of the sweeping majesty of its ships to encourage high-seas travel to America. As executed by an artist solely identified with the initials N.N.A., realistic urban planning takes a backseat to splendid detail as the Glasgow firm of Handyside & Hendersons single-stack vessel steams austerely past the statue of Liberty, silhouetted against a mountainous tumble of strati. As the ship in the poster bears no name, it could be any of three ships--the Cameronia, the Tuscania or the California--servicing the New York/Glasgow run in the early-1920s
