A man on an old fashioned bicycle with a train going across his mid section and a Buster Keaton suit on, with his wife looking over his shoulder. This comedy masterpiece was about a railroad engineer during the Civil War who is rejected from serving in the Confederate army because he is more valuable as an engineer that as a soldier. Unaware of the circumstances, his fianc,e and family think him a coward. When his train, The General is stolen by Union agents with his fianc,e aboard. Keaton saves them both and defeats the Union troops in the process. He is rewarded with an officers commission in the Confederate Army and the renewed love of his fianc,e (Russian Films, p. 100) An off-the-charts Stenberg Brothers classic, a poster more than equal to the task of promoting what is arguably one of the greatest comedies ever made: the choice of colors is stunning, the sparse yet perfectly situated design elements are exquisite and the Buster Keaton suit can only be described as a work of genius.
