American Indian Red Eagle Poster
Buffalo Bill Cody advertises his show featuring Red Eagle and the Indian braves.Though he could never be accused of being an ardent supporter of the Native American cause - separate accommodations were maintained between Indians and the other participants of The Wild West show - Bill Cody nonetheless understood the crowd-luring appeal of these tribal elements of his productions. Besides what would the Wild West have been - in overblown myth as well as in reality - without the clashes between Cowboys and Indians. No specific reference could be found to Red Eagle, although in some performances, Cody called himself 'the White Eagle' and Chief Red Cloud was called 'the Red Fox'. However, it hardly matters that he was just one of the Braves thanks to the wonderful poster seen here. Though not precisely what one might call politically correct, this portrait of the young 'savage' was a showman's dream, undoubtedly leaving the French public clamoring to secure their tickets.
