Caffe Espresso
The Espresso coffee maker is introduced to the public. An Italian adaptation of the Russian samovar, the brand name would eventually enter the language as a generic term for thickly-brewed coffee, as it was most frequently served that way from the newly introduced gadgets. In this splendid Italian design by Ceccanti, our attention is drawn first to the two fashionable ladies, then to the large machine and its server, before finally taking notice of the dandy on the left who is so engrossed with drinking the fine perk that he is oblivious to the scene around him.
